Weekend

The carbon cloth is wet out on a sheet of polythene, then another sheet of polythene is put on top, this is then rolled with a large soft roller to remove air pockets creating a pre-preg like material. The templates can then be placed on top without sticking to the wet cloth, the cloth is then cut with a roller blade.

Once cut to shape the material can be easily handled with distortion and can be placed perfectly up against the leading edge, then peel off the bottom layer, roller into the mould then pull back the top layer, simple.

Hi Harry
Good to see the progress that you're making.
A couple of questions for you:-
What release agent do you use, I presume that you're using two pack acrylic paint as the colour.
How lomg do you leave the paint before laying up and vac-bagging & what vacuum pressure do you use.
All the best

Hey Jon

Hope you are well.

Release agent - Meguiars 87 high temp mould release wax. I used to use simoniz wax on the Instinct but this new stuff is miles better. You have to be really careful with the spray technique, too much paint and it will 'fish eye' on contact with the mould.

Paint is two pack acrylic.

The paint can only be left for a few hours or until it is no longer soft, any more and the epoxy will not stick.

Vacuum pressure is 23 in Hg.

See you at the speed comp?
